Bill Hunter died on 9 July 2015 at the age of 95 of a brain haemorrhage. Although suffering from Alzheimer’s, he still had moments, right up to the end, where he showed his personality, humour, sense of history and hope for the world.

He leaves behind a devoted family (in the broadest sense), including two sons, three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His legacy comprises a vast archive, some of which is on this site.
